Hatton Elected Chief of Staff

08/12/08

Dr. Mark Hatton, family practitioner at Moundview Clinic, was recently elected chief of staff at Moundview Memorial Hospital & Clinics.

As chief of staff, Dr. Hatton will run the hospital’s medical staff meetings, oversee physician credentialing, assist in changing medical staff bylaws as needed, and coordinate some of the interactions between medical staff and hospital administration. He will also serve as liaison to the hospital’s board of directors which includes attending board meetings.

“I enjoy working at Moundview and plan to stay here until I retire,” said Dr. Hatton. “I feel the chief of staff position is another opportunity for me to serve the community.”

A physician can be elected to the chief of staff position at Moundview for a one year term, but may be re-elected to serve additional terms. Dr. Hatton is only the third person to serve as chief of staff at the hospital since 1959. He succeeds Dr. Martin Janssen, family practitioner at Roche-a-Cri Clinic, who served as chief for over 30 years and was instrumental in the development of the hospital since his arrival in 1960, one year after the facility opened.

"Dr. Janseen has left some big boots to fill," said Dr. Hatton.  "I look forward to the challenge."

Dr. Hatton has been a member of the hospital's medical staff since March 2007.  He has practiced family medicine in Wisconsin and Illinois for over 20 years.  He earned his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and his family practice residency at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, Illinois.
