Urgent Care

Urgent Care is an after-hours, walk-in service for illnesses and injuries that are urgent, but not life threatening.  Our qualified staff can provide the care you need until you are able to see your regular health care provider.

Conditions commonly treated through urgent care include: sprains and strains, abrasions and cuts, minor fractures, minor burns, colds, flu and fever, ear, eye, nose and skin infections, back pain and urinary tract infections.  A more detailed list of examples can be found below.  Lab and x-ray services are available.

Hours
Urgent Care is available Monday through Friday, 5-9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the hospital's emergency department.  Please use the emergency entrance to access care and check in at the reception desk.  No appointments are necessary and there is no need to call ahead.

Fill Your Prescriptions In-House
If you receive a prescription during your urgent care appointment, you can take advantage of our InstyMeds medication dispensing machine.  Similar to a vending machine, it allows patients to receive medications after hours when local pharmacies are closed.  Prescriptions can be sent directly to InstyMeds.  The machine takes your insurance information and calculates your co-pays and deductibles.  You then use a credit or debit card to pay your portion of the costs or pay cash to Moundview staff for a pre-paid debit card to use in the machine.  Patients who qualify for Charity Care may receive a pre-paid Hill-Burton card that will cover their prescription costs.

Service Fees
Urgent Care services may be covered by Medicare, Medicaid, most private insurances, cash, personal check and most major credit cards.  Charges are less expensive than traditional emergency room charges, but more than primary care clinic visits.  Please check with your insurance plan to understand your personal responsibility.

First Priority
Since urgent care is housed in the emergency department, our first priority is to treat patients with true emergencies such as trauma and chest pain.  There may be times when urgent care patients will wait to be seen until ER patients are stabilized.

Urgent Care or Emergency?
Patients will be briefly examined in the triage room to determine whether their condition needs urgent care or is more serious, requiring emergency care.  In some cases this can not be determined until the patient's condition is officially diagnosed.
